See, everyone loves me

Yesterday the Lane family came up for a visit.  These are friends from Kalama where we lived before moving to Bremerton.  It was great to see them and get caught up (their kids are all grown up and out of high school now!)  Greyson loved having new faces smile at him.  We managed to get the whole family in this picture, although Ashley is a bit hard to see (she’s sitting in the car as she wasn’t feeling very well at the time the picture was taken).

My prediction about being bad parents is beginning to come true already.  What I mean by this is that for the longest time we encouraged Greyson to grab anything and everything.  We praised him for trying to grab things.  Well now we are not praising him and are telling him he needs to STOP grabbing things like his trach, his feeding tubing, suction catheters (which are supposed to remain sterile) the gauze around his g-tube, hair (on heads or chest, ouch!), toys, pillows, basically anything that comes in range.  Again we are happy about most of these, but there are a few that we wish he would leave alone (trach, g-tube, catheters, feeding tubing).  All the while he sits and smiles happily as we scold him and tell him to stop it.  I’m quite certain this is our own fault for not specifying early on what he shouldn’t grab.  Currently he is sleeping soundly next to Stacy.

  1. That is actually how it goes all along. We get so excited to see them do the new things but then we have to teach them which new things are not good and which are good. We can’t wait for them to talk and then we wish they might talk a little less. We can’t wait for them to walk and then we wish they would slow down so we can keep up. It goes on and on all through growing up. Greyson is doing great and now just will have to be directed to other new things.

    Sleep well. Love Grandma Terry

  2. Good Morning!

Sometimes we don’t realize where some of the new things they will lead. But it is an adventure and you will both learn new things together. That’s what is fun about being parents.

You are doing great. Sometimes parents don’t recognize what you just came to realizing. So cudos to you.

Glad you had a great visit with your friends. Looks like you had fun. I am jealous! Someday though. Hopefully in the near future. That wil be me holding Greyson.

    Love You guys so much.

    Great Aunt Nana

  3. I agree with Nana! I want a picture with Greyson! I can’t wait to come in October though because Boise State will be back playing and there will be a game for us to watch together! I already have the outfit picked out and purchased! :)Trust me, you will like this one. Never too early to start promoting a college! (teehee!)
Isn’t it funny that we used to say we would never do/say those things to our kids and now we are doing them sometimes without even thinking about it? Scary huh!!! Amazing how things change when we are on the parent side of it.
    We love you!!
