No more nose hose.

The doctor said the surgery went well.  The biggest suprise was that while they were in there they removed his appendix.  They did this because Greyson’s appendix did not lock in place like it should have as he was developing, and was “floating” freely in his abdomin.  While this isn’t a problem now, in the future if he ever had appendicitis Dr’s might have a very difficult time diagnosing it because the pain could be in the wrong area.  So to avoid problems in the future they just went ahead and took it out.

During surgery Greyson had a couple little challenges.  His heart rate and blood pressure dropped pretty low and they had to give him some medicines to bring it up again.  This was caused by the pressure put on the liver by the retractors, but they were able to get him stabilized and performed the operation by manually holding the liver out of the way.  There was also a little bleeding from the liver.  The good news is that neither of these things should be a problem with his recovery, so he should recover from all the surgeries just fine.  Right now the only evidence that something is slightly off is that his heart rate is still a bit high.  Otherwise his vent settings look the same and he is resting.

All in all the hardest thing has been seeing the incision on his stomach.  It is horizontal across his belly and quite a bit larger than we were expecting.  Over time it should lighten up a lot and look much better, but as parents it was not easy to see such a big incision on such a perfect little belly.

Greyson continues to be a tremendous source of joy for us.  God has done amazing things in his life and continues to amaze us by showing his love and provisions for us.   We cannot thank you all enough for the love, prayers, and support we have received.

  1. I am so glad that is over, and he is doing well. He does look peaceful sleeping there but maybe a little pale. He has went through alot today. Will the vent cause him any trouble moving his head back and forth? It seemed like the longest afternoon ever, but thank you God for being there with Greyson.

    I love you mom

  2. What a precious face!! We are so relieved to hear such good news. Now we will just be praying for a speedy recovery so you three can be at home. Sending our love from…Mom and Dad to you Stacy and Bob; and from Grammie and Papa to Greyson!

  3. I am so glad to hear that the surgery ended up ok! I heard that it was today but no one could tell me how it went. Hopefully when little Greyson gets old you won’t even be able to see his scar. It’s crazy about the appendix thing! i didn’t know that could happen but i guess with these babies anything is possible. He looks great in the pic! I hope he recovers quickly

  4. Hey guys! So glad things went well. Looking forward to seeing you soon. Great to see that little face free of tape. 🙂

  5. How handsome does he look! I’m so glad that it went well and is finally over. While he’ll have some time before he comes home it will fly by because you’ll be so busy with “med school.” I can’t wait to see him.

  6. We’re all reading your update and thanking God for Greyson’s successful surgery. He is an absolutely beautiful little boy. KJ is reading this as I write and he says boys are handsome, so that works, too.

Rest well young Greyson and keep getting better and better – that’s what mom and dad want for you and need for them.

  9. I am so thankful to hear that the surgeries went ok. Greyson never ceases to surprise us huh with the whole appendix thing! Im sure you are very tired and drained from such a long day but…..next up is “med school” right? Im sure you and Stacy will be experts in no time. Greyson looks like he is resting well and hopefull at this hour so are you. We will continue to pray that God will continue to do amazing things in and through Greyson.

    Love Ya,
    Tam

  10. You guys are going to become experts at trachs. You will have to teach me some pointers, as we do not see them too often in the unit. I am so proud of Greyson for being such a trooper. I can’t wait till I get to see him go home. I hope you guys get some rest after yesterday being such a big day. See you in the morning.

  11. WOW – What a beautiful picture – and such great news!!! I thought of and prayed for you often yesterday afternoon. You are not alone!!

  12. It sure is good to see his little face after such a long time! Our prayers have been with you guys all along. We have Greyson on our prayer list at Church and every Thursday when we meet we remember him. Also, Ed and I have been checking daily on his condition and praying for him. We have an awesome God! Stacey and Bob, you have been in our prayers too! So glad to hear that all went well and we are praying for the day that you can take him home….sooner, we pray, than later!
