Mmmm tasty!

It’s funny how Greyson doesn’t like to put food in his mouth, yet he will chomp on anything else that comes within range of his very active hands!  Tonight we got to go watch a volleyball game that one of Greyson’s NICU nurses was coaching (well OK she is the assistant coach but to Greyson it was all on her!)  It was a lot of fun and Greyson was actually watching the game, following the ball back and forth at times.  It was great to get to hang out with Corinne and for Greyson to be able to get his picture taken with her.  Somehow in the hospital (and a few times since) we never managed to get a picture of the two of them together.  Finally we have it!  Greyson got to sit with her for awhile and as you can see from the picture was loving chewing on her sweaters drawstrings.

Today Greyson got his first birthday card in the mail (at least my memory says it was first, sorry if I’m wrong!).  It was from the NICU!  He was so happy that they remembered his birthday and sent a card.  I’m pretty sure he has now completely forgiven all of them for any of the mean things they did to him (which were only for his own good but he struggles to comprehend that sometimes, like when they were putting the cpap mask on him!).

Tonight as I was doing his trach care I learned that he has a mom’s song and a dad’s song.  See when we need him to hold still we sing to him.  During trach care Stacy has a specific song she sings to him.  I don’t do trach care nearly as often as Stacy, and I have a different song that I usually sing to him.  Well tonight he was really squirmy and so I started singing Stacy’s song to him.  He looked at me weird and then started wiggling all over the changing table (not a good move when dad has the medical version of needle nose plyers under your trach tube and against your chubby little neck!).  So I stoppd and got him back where I needed him to be and started singing the song I always sing to him (not for trach care per se, just the song I usually sing to him) and he settled right down and let me finish without any problems.  I wonder if that will work when he’s older?

  1. Hey guys! So great to see you today. Thank you so much for venturing out to the volleyball game. I loved every minute of it. Hugs all around.

  2. Loved the picture. I know you had been wanting to get one of Corinne and Greyson. That trach care is pretty touch! Bob you are amazing and what a special Dad. We are counting the hours to when we will be on the road to see you Greyson. Have a wonderful day you three! Love to you all….

  3. How special this picture is and to think how far Greyson has come thanks to people like Corrine. The big day tomorrow, don’t forget to get what I told you to Daddy. I hope our card comes on time. Have a great night to get ready for your birthday tomorrow Greyson.

    Love you so much
    Grandma Terry

  4. Greyson – We all wish you a happy 1st Birthday. Your card will reach you in time, but the gifts won’t. Not to worry – it will just extend your birthday, which is actually fun – and it sounds like it will be anyway with several groups of relatives and friends arriving during the next week or so. I know you will all have a great time!

Be well young Greyson and enjoy the first of many birthdays.

    With love,

Jim & Judy, Laura & KJ
