no wait….I meant tell me 5 stories and then I’ll go to bed.

Well the big 48 hour live in is over, and I think we have survived.  Honestly I have to say that was not easy.  We decided that rather than trying to sleep in the room with Greyson, one of us would go to the parent apartment and sleep and then come and relieve the other one.  It was a perfect plan well executed.  The only glitch was that it required sleeping during periods of the day.  For instance Stacy was to relieve me at 4am and I was going to go to the apartment and sleep as late as I could.  Then I would relieve her and she would sleep as much as she could before spending the afternoon together.  The problem of course was construction at the hospital.  It was so loud it was like a jack hammer was going off right outside our window.  Oh wait, I mean it was loud because a jack hammer was going off right outside our window!

Then there was the fact that Greyson was not always in a super mood.  The hard thing with him is deciding if it was drug induced (he’s still on his ativan, methadone wean), if he is having a problem (something wrong with his trach, needs suctioning)  If he’s gagging or trying to throw up (which is made difficult by his fundoplication), if he pooped (easy one, you can smell it!) if he has a wet diaper (also easy, just check it!), if he’s hungry (hard to tell if he’s got hunger pain since he’s really never been hungry) or if we put the food in to fast causing problems (we are now gravity feeding him so the higher you hold the syringe the faster it goes in, which can be REALLY fast if you hold it straight up, but I’m not telling how I know that!) or if the kid is just being a baby (literally and figuratively, ha!).  All in all though we feel pretty good about the experience.

Now we are home tweaking his room.  The nice thing about how this worked out is we get to sleep some before he comes home as well as set up all the home equipment before he arrives.  This will allow us to make tweaks to the plan before he is actually here with us.

Stacy read Greyson a few stories, I think he wanted more but as new parents we definately don’t want to get caught in that trap.  So everything is pretty much ready and in place for him to come home.  Now it’s just hanging out till they say we can leave (early next week).

  1. You guys are super!!! I commend you on what sounds like a job well done. Once you get home it will be better because I happen to know that things are VERY VERY quiet at your house!!!!Deb and I were commenting on that on our last visit. No trains….no road noise…..no dogs barking….NO NOISE!!!!This picture is just adorable. I just LOVE how good Greyson is looking. Im sure you and Stacy are resting today and that is great. Greyson has awesome parents. Rest well and get ready for your REALLY BIG FISHING trip!! (Its going to be great…. I can feel it!)

    Love Ya,
    Tam

  2. I think God knew you need a little rest before Greyson came home after the live in. So even though it was dissapointing at the time it really was the better plan. Greyson is looking really good and and looks like he really likes to be read to. Some babies lose interest really quick, but it doesn’t sound like Greyson does. It won’t be long now and he’ll be home. I like the way you and Stacy work so well together, you two are amazing. Hope you got some good sleep.

  3. Can I say thanks for reading to Greyson? As a Kindergarten teacher I so appreciate that you are the kind of parents to step up and give your child a heads up! Kuddos to you and Greyson! haha! Also, I have to say that I think I did mention that this new “fishing” schedule would be nice so you could get some rest before the big trip? Am I amazing or what?!?!? Maybe I should go into counseling?!?!?! The picture is the cutest, one of my favorite!!! Greyson is coming home soon!!!!

  4. Greyson, it is a good thing you like books. With all the educators in your family you just aren’t going to have a chance. Your Grammie loves children books, also, so we will just have to sit and read lots when we come to visit. I love the picture today. It looks like you are really thinking about what Mom is reading. Chewing your gums in deep thought trying to understand, is a good thing. Enjoy you day today and maybe Mom will read some more to you! We love you so much!!

  5. So – the 1st NW Fishing Holiday has extended into next week. We all knew it depended on God’s timing. Now all is ready for Greyson and you are ready to start on yet another chapter in your lives.

Continue to rest well young Greyson and be well.

With our prayers for the greatest of weeks.

  6. WOW! It is so exciting that coming home is actually happening soon! Greyson is looking cuter and cuter each day. I can’t believe how alert he looks. I am sure God has wonderful plans for all of you. Your story has already touched MANY people. May God continue to work through you all. Get your rest. I will continue to pray for all of you. Dawn
