Ha, I got it again!

Greyson really likes to help with his suctioning these days.  As you pull the catheter out (which means both hands are busy) he likes to grab it.  Then when you say things like, “hey don’t grab that!” he smiles much like is seen in this picture.

So the vent changes continue but Stacy tells me that the settings he is on today is REALLY what the Dr. wants it to be at.  So he is at a pressure support of 17 (12 with a peep of 5).  I’m just hoping we can leave it alone for a little while.  Greyson did have a blood gas today before they turned his vent back up and it was good, his ph was 7.37 (normal range is 7.35-7.45) and his c02 was 52 (ideally we would like his c02 to be under 50, but for Greyson this is not bad at all.

The eye Dr. came by tonight and saw Greyson again (same eye Dr. that saw him in the NICU).  He came in and asked why Greyson was still in the hospital, to which Stacy thought, “can’t you see the ventilator tubing!?”  Of course she didn’t say that.  Anyway he looked in Greyson’s eyes and said there was nothing remarkable.  No scarring and the back of his eye looks really good which means his vision should be normal.  So he may need glasses some day, but that will not be related to his prematurity, but rather genetics.  Hopefully he’ll have his mothers eyes and not his fathers and won’t need glasses.  Either way it’s great to know his eyes are “OK”.  God has certainly been watching over him.

Speaking of eyes the one area the eye Dr. was not happy about was the scratches by Greyson’s right eye.  He is really waving his arms around now and gave himself quite a scratch.  We will have to stay on top of those fingernails.  Well it’s late again so we need to get to bed.  We have to try to get some sleep before Tuesday when we take over his care.

  1. Greyson……Greyson……Greyson!!! Already trying to help with his care. Wow. It has been so wonderful to see his continued improvement and to know that he is “going fishing” soon!!! Aly went fishing yesterday and caught 4 fish! So tell Greyson about that! These next few days will be really FUN for you and Stacy and Im sure without a doubt that you both are ready and up to the challenge. I so wanted to “decorate” for your big fishing triip but I am not going to be able to sneak to Bremerton. I envisioned balloons lining your driveway for your trip to the “lake” 🙂 We will still be praying for all three of you and that everything will fall into place as God intends.

    Love you,
    Aunt Tam

  2. Well it sounds like greyson is going to be a big helper.

We have hm covered in prayer along with the two of you.

I pray for strength, wisdom, endurance and a peacefully journey this week.

We love you!! I know this will be a week of challenges but you will rise above.

Excited to hear how this goes.

    Love you guys so much!

  3. This is the big week we’ve all been waiting for and praying for. It is cool that he is reaching for things even if it is something he really shouldn’t be helping with. It is good that he has the pic line out of his arm and can move that arm around easier. He can play patty cake now and it won’t hurt. I too, like Tammy, would love to have been there to decorate with lots of balloons and a welcome home sign, but you’ll have to imagine it when you drive up. Take care Love you guys

  4. Oh Bob & Stacy,

So much good news in a week. I’ve been forgetting to check the last few days and now we’re talking about going home. We are rejoicing with you and Mr. Greyson. What a beautiful story of faithfulness (both God’s and yours) this has been!

    Blessings!

  5. Wow this Monday I had alot to read. How exciting that the day to come home is finally approaching. God is Awesome his provision and care of us is mind boggling. That little guy is so precious! We are all (his extended family) looking foward to him being home with Mom and Dad. You two won’t know how to act not running to and fro……but then we know you’ll be busy loving on and taking care of Greyson. Love to you all.

  6. Oh man, li’l Grey-grey blows my mind. Seriously. Sometimes when I see his pic and start reading another nights post, I start getting all teary eyed with happy tears. I just can’t believe him. Man. God’s freaking amazing, no doubt. I really love to show people links and tell them his story. I’m very very glad you’re doing such an amazing job of documenting all of it. He’ll be able to look back and see himself and know that from the beginning his life was in God, and that his parents loved him so much. Seriously, this is the coolest scrapbook/ baby book you could ever have. Man, Greyson’s so cool. Keep on keeping on li’l guy!
