So last night Greyson confirmed that he in fact does not want his dad to get any sleep. It started like a normal night until our nurse showed up and told us she was not feeling well. She was willing to still work and wear a mask, but we don’t want to take any chances so Stacy and I were going to have to pull the night shift. Well while Greyson and Stacy slept it was incredibly peaceful. Greyson slept soundly, Stacy slept, the machines were silent (OK so the machines are never “silent” but they were not alarming) all was right in the world. So at around 2:20am I woke Stacy up so I could go to sleep and she could watch Greyson. She woke up, I laid down, and suddenly……………..BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP!!!!!! Stacy worked hard to try to silence the vent (which only makes it quite for a minute). She tried to reposition Greyson, she tried to reposition the vent tubing. She tried everything but as soon as the minute was up, BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP!!! Now keep in mind Greyson is fine through this. He is sleeping fairly soundly (I guess all the alarms in the hospital have caused him to be somewhat immune to the alarms). The problem was most of the ventilator breath was going out his nose and mouth as he exhaled. While this isn’t so bad it means the vent can’t read how much he’s exhaling, so it alarms. OK so after over a half an hour trying everything we could think of to make the vent be quiet, Stacy told me I should go to the spare room so I could get some sleep and she would just keep working with the vent. So I went into the spare room and laid down and wouldn’t you know it? Quiet. Not just the quiet of being in another room as the ventilator alarms, quiet as in, there were no more alarms. Yep as soon as I went into the other room, the vent stopped alarming and maybe went off once the rest of the night. This has happened one other time where he stopped alarming after I went into the other room. I guess he just gets bothered knowing I’m in the same room with him, but I’m just sleeping. Oh well, no nurse again tonight so we’ll see what happens. I’ll tell you, strange things happen in the Westfall house around 3am!!!
Sleep, you don’t need no sleep.

I am so sorry you had a rough night but so glad to hear Greyson was fine. Sleep deprevation is certainly a parents thing, some of us have gone through it more than others. Hang in there and hopefully tonight will be a better night. We will be praying for you both.
Love mom
I know you guys are used to the alarms and know what to do but….. I can’t imagine waking up to that and how your heart must be in your throat every time until you establish Greyson is ok. Nice that he slept through it all, what a darlin. He knows Mom and Dad are going to take care of him. Like I said a few months back. You’ll be losing sleep now and again until he’s grown and then some depending on the situation. Just know our hearts and prayers are ever with you three. That little guy is getting so cute I especially enjoyed yesterdays pictures. Lot of Love to all of you. Hey Uncle Dick is here and he send his love along too.
Sorry Bob and Stacy! How hard it must be to be working parents and be up like that during the night! Our thoughts and prayers are with you as always!
