Sock puppets and bed friends.

So last night before we left the hospital I noticed how funny Greyson looked with the socks on his hands.  They put them on him so he wouldn’t pull anything he isn’t supposed to pull.  Anyway he was holding them and opening and closing his hands a little bit which made it look like he was putting on a puppet show!  It was a crack up (at least to me, who went over and provided the voices for Mr. right and his pal lefty).

Today Stacy said Greyson was wide awake all morning and VERY playful.  It sounds like he was kicking his legs and moving his arms and head a lot as he played with her.  He was back up to 35 percent oxygen today, which is kind of a bummer but it was great to hear how active he was this morning.

They changed his feeding regime again today, which means Stacy will need to once again bring in a lot of milk.  This is bad because after the last change Greyson wasn’t needing much breast milk so Stacy quit working on making a lot, and now will have to crank up her efforts.  She can do it though, she’s quite amazing.  Today she did Greyson’s trach care all by herself, which is incredible.  I guess I’ll have to step up my game and try to do his care solo tomorrow so I can stay on the same level as her (OK lets be honest, she’ll always be more advanced, but I have to be capable before he can come home so I want to get to it).

Tomorrow they have scheduled Greyson for a swallow study so it will be interesting to see how that goes and what it means for trying to begin feeding him some by mouth.  We are praying we will be able to start on that soon.  They also put in for the pulmonary specialist to come check on Greyson.  This will be to develop the plan to bring him home as he will be the one to see Greyson once he is out of the hospital.  So things are picking up as we approach the day Greyson will come home.

  1. Don’t you just love those puppet shows? Greyson is so amazing and always entertaining. Were those his socks he has on his hands? He sure is a sweet looking young man. My heart just swells with so much pride as I think of what wonderful parents you two have become in such a short time. You have experienced more in the last six months than most of us will experience in a life time. You will probably never know how much sharing this experience with so many has touched our lives, given us hope and opened our hearts to receive God’s love. We will be forever grateful for the story you have told, the joy you have shared and the ups and downs our your daily life. Our hearts hurt so on those down days and wish there was a way we could make the hurt and anguish go away. We are sending our love, knowing that God is in control and he will never give us more than we can handle. Hang in there!! Wishing you three a wonderful day together, with lots of smiles and fun and some great teachable moments. Love Mom

  2. Just like a Westfall, getting himself into trouble, but then getting to wear sock puppets as punishment. He’s gonna fit right in.

Lynne and I are so encouraged to hear of progress and look forward to hearing of day spent at home with this incredible little boy.

  3. How creative Bob , Mr right and pal lefty. I can’t tell you how blessed little Greyson is to have such wonderful parents. Then again how blessed you are to have such a wonderful little boy. God is good. It is so exciting to hear you doing all the preparations to going home, the time will be here before you know it. I was sorry to hear he had to raise his o2 level but maybe it will only be for a short time. I’m praying God will give you peace and confidence through this time as well, as I know going home will be a little scarry but I know you two will do great.
