Staring contest.

Greyson had a pretty good night and did much better today.  His 02 requirement was down to 35 percent which is the lowest he’s been since being put back on the ventilator.  The Dr. today let us look at his chest X-ray so I feel better now that my medical school training is catching up to Stacy’s.  Now I just need to bag him and we’ll be even.  Well I guess she now mixes his milk up for him and puts it on the pump, but in a way that is like cooking and I don’t want to get into that!

The Dr. said Greyson had an Atelectasis episode the other day, which is where part of the lung collapsed or was without air.  This is probably why he was requiring so much oxygen the other day.  As far as the infections, well it looks like he has bugs (we all have some bacteria lurking within us, ready to strike when they see an opening) but they are not causing infection.  It will be a couple more days before we’ll know for sure.  In the meantime they will keep him on the antibiotics they are giving him as a precaution.

So I had to have a talk with Greyson today to clear up any confusion he might be experiencing.  Every night we say our prayers and pray that Jesus will watch over him.  Well last night and tonight Jesus has really been watching over him.  Confused?  So was Greyson.  You see the night nurse he had last night and has again tonight is named Jesus.  So Greyson was a little confused about why we prayed to Jesus after he had just left the room.  Don’t worry I told him all about how Jesus is and was a common name.  Then I explained that  the Jesus we were praying to was God’s son but when I got into the whole incarnation thing and how Jesus (Christ, not the nurse) is fully human and fully God I think I lost him.   We might have to slow down his theology lessons a bit, but overal he tracks pretty good.

Both Stacy and I held him today which was a lot of fun.  Stacy didn’t get to hold him too long because he started de-satting.  We are pretty sure he has a full belly and needs to work it out so he can get more comfortable.  Other than that he did really well today.  The song of the day was You are my Sunshine, thanks Corinne for that suggestion.

  1. Another song would be Jesus Loves You. You could say Jesus the nurse and Jesus in heaven because I bet the nurse loves him by now as well. So glad to hear his heart is getting stronger and doing well. We just keep praying for better and better days for you Greyson. Love you

  2. Im so glad you guys are getting to hold him again! Its definitly healing for both of you and Greyson. Expect a certain visitor sometime soon 🙂

  3. I am very happy that the two of you got to hold Greyson today. I can’t wait till he is well enough that I can hold him again. I miss rocking him down in the unit. I hope his sats continue to come down, and that Greyson gets rid of his “bugs” before his next surgries. I will have to come and visit when those take place next week. Take care, and know that us NICU nurses are thinking of you guys.

  4. You NICU nurses rock! You are so awesome. Thank you so much for all that you have done for Bob, Stacy and of course Greyson! It is so much fun for us to hear that you are back to holding Greyson. (Even if I haven’t got to yet!)Im sure you are so relieved to have some GREAT news on the heart issue. We will keep praying for upcoming surgery next week and know that we love you three so very much.

    Love,
    Tam

  5. The great news continues. Hurray!

How wonderful to hold him again – for you and for him. There’s nothing like a good hug.

And for a fun song – I remember if from when I was little, so I’m not sure you’ll know it, but your mom’s will and will hum it for you: “Skidamarink a dink a dink – skidamarink a doo, I love you. I love you in the morning and in the afternoon. I love you in the evening and. . .” And for a lullaby, “All Through the Night”.

You are always in our prayers – for Greyson’s health and strength and yours.

    Judy and family

  6. And to Greyson,

Have a fun day with mom and dad and when you rest, may you have sweet dreams.

Rest well and be well, little one.

    Judy

  7. Stacy, Bob and Greyson
I continue to be at home (now 1 week). I am thinking of you often and hoping that Greyson is progressing so he can have his other surgeries and get home where he belongs. I hope you two are taking care of yourselves. Bob, I’m sorry to hear your grandfather passed away. Even though we know he is in a much better place, it still is hard to loose someone you love. Keep us posted. I hopefully will be back to work Monday. Give my little buddy a hug for me. and my suggestion for a song is “Jesus loves me” but I am sure that has already been sung many times over and over. God’s Blessings Cathy
