Shhhh…..I’m hunting wabit.

img_0377.JPG

Well this is an older picture but I didn’t see it on the blog yet so here we go.  I did some video but had trouble shrinking it down small enough to get on the blog, so you get this picture instead.  Tonight Stacy and Greyson went down to the church to help me set up for an ornament making party we are having for the kids (remember, I’m a children’s pastor now!).  Greyson was such a good little guy waiting for us to get done.  We had him in his car seat and he pooped so after I changed him Stacy came in and grabbed him.  He didn’t have any pants on but had a onesie, long sleeve shirt, and a light jacket on.  Well when I made it back to the gym he was in his car seat just hanging out, still with no pants on.  So I put a blanket over his legs and wrapped him up tight since it was easier than putting his pants back on.  After a little while I heard him let out a fun little yell and I looked over and he had pulled the blanket loose and exposed his legs, which he was kicking straight up in the air as he played with his feet.  It was pretty funny seeing him all dressed up on the top half, and his bare legs sticking out from the blanket on the bottom half.  I put his pants back on after that.

Can I get a woot woot!

img_0409.JPG

Greyson loves to play in his walker.  He likes to grab the bird (in the picture) and the dolphin (oposite side of the walker) and try to bring them together (this is not possible!).  He looks at them and talks at them like he is saying, “hey you guys need to meet!”.  It’s pretty fun to watch.  He’s getting better at using his legs and has made his walker move a little.  Still a ways to go before he’s mobile either on the floor or in his walker.  Having said that he has NO problem at all rolling over now and does it so quickly you have to really watch him when he’s on the bed, or the couch, or your lap, or………….

I watched out, and only cried a little, now what do I do?

img_0406.JPG

So Greyson has been very vocal the last couple of days.  I haven’t really understood why all of a sudden he’s been talking up a storm.  Then it hit me.  We were just in Walmart and let him put on a santa hat.  I think he’s telling us his wish list!  I must say he has excellent taste as he is very into electronics.  Every time we sit down with him at the computer he will stretch out as far as he can (sometimes so far he almost falls off your lap!) to reach the keyboard.  I’ll tell you he knows some keyboard shortcuts that I’m not even aware of.  The other night he took the computer out of the program I was using and took me to a window that talked about the specifications of our computer.  I guess he wanted to see what he was working with!

I told him he would get the traditional Christmas gifts.  Socks and underwear.  Then I told him he should be thankful cause when I was a kid …….. well maybe that’s not how it went.

I’m a bowling ball

grabbing-feet.jpg

Today I came home for about an hour before going to Tacoma for the Dad’s night out.  Greyson was playing with nurse Tina and having a great time.  I broke it up (I’m mean I know) and spent the hour playing with Greyson.  He was laughing so hard at one point we had to stop and vent his stomach because he had himself laughing so hard his belly was shaking and working up the bubbles.  Stacy had fun with him tonight while I was gone so it was a great night all around.

The fathers night out event was pretty low key.  There were a couple dads with kids in the NICU and one other dad who had tripplets seven years ago.  One of his girls didn’t make it and the other two have been through a lot but he was there to encourage the other fathers, which is what I was there for as well.  I hope we did encourage them as it can be a very stressful place.

Don’t get to close, I bite!

bite-2.jpgbite.jpg

Well usually Greyson doesn’t bite people (at least not too much) but he does like to bite his toys.  This afternoon we put him down for what will hopefully turn into a nap and when I went by the pack n play he was just laying with his arms by his sides and the bear hanging out of his mouth.

It looks like it’s going to be awhile before I can show off Greyson’s new tricks.  He needs more work before we reveal them, and needs to learn to perform on cue.

We called his heart doctor today because his heart has been beating weird at night again.  This time they told us that what they mean by “this is normal” is that it is a normal problem kids can have.  So it’s not “normal” but it is normal if you have this problem.  Basically it is something that will not cause him any problems and he should outgrow it by the time he is a teenager.  If it wasn’t for all the monitors we would never even know about it, but we do know about it and it appears it is nothing to worry about.  Although we still worry a little bit and will talk to the heart doctor more about it when we see him just to further clarify what is going on.

The last few nights when Stacy has washed under Greyson’s chin during bath time he has been belly laughing.  We tried to video tape it last night, but of course he only chuckled a little with the video camera going.  It is so fun to listen to him laugh.

In a few minutes we are having lunch with the guy who cleaned our air ducts for us.  You may not remember but after hearing our story he told us we could pay him by having him over for cookies once Greyson came home from the hospital.  Well we are doing lunch but we are finally paying our debt.  That’s all for now.

The best chew toy ever!

img_0402.JPG

The other night Greyson was playing with his vent tubing and trying to chew on it.  So I handed him the only thing handy (I’d already tried lamby but he just put him by his head).  He grabbed the hanger and started chomping away on it.  It was pretty funny because he kept hitting himself in the face with the other end.

Well this is short but that’s all I’m putting for tonight.  Greyson is working on some new tricks but they are not ready for the public spotlight yet, so you’ll just have to wait.  Night all!

Clogged sink

sink-1.jpgnovember-6-08-bathing-in-the-sink-004.jpg

Well today we couldn’t get water to go down our sink and when we looked we realized it was because there was a kid in there!  Actually we just thought it would be fun to give Greyson a bath in the sink.  After all both Stacy and I were bathed in the sink at one point or another so we didn’t want Greyson to miss out.  He was a little unsure at first but before long he was splashing and having a great time.

Tonight Greyson was rolling between Stacy and I while we laid on the floor a little bit.  At one point we got so far apart that while rolling over to Stacy Greyson had himself almost completly turned around.  He’s not completely mobile yet but I’m not sure how he can get much closer.

We were supposed to get a new nurse tonight (so we would be back to one night of nursing a week, wooohoooo!) but unfortunately she had an emergency and will not be able to make it.  We feel like we are not good for night nurses as they always seem to get sick or have family issues when they try to come work for us.  Oh well, who wants to go to bed before 2am anyway?  It’s been so long now I think I’m forgetting what that is like!  Don’t feel to bad for us, some of our friends from the PICU said they haven’t had nursing, day or night, for four weeks.  We are very thankful that we have an amazing daytime nurse (she goes to our church!) who allows us to go to work and feel good knowing Greyson is being cared for by someone we trust completely.

So you can pray for me next week.  I’m going to Tacoma to help out at a March of Dimes event.  It is called fathers night out and will be for all the dad’s who have kids in either the NICU or the PICU.  I’m hoping I can somehow be a source of encouragement to them as someone who has been there before.

I’m bored….guess I’ll read a book.

img_0307.jpg

Tonight we were “ignoring” Greyson a little while he played on the floor.  It was really fun to watch all he did as he was “on his own”.  Stacy was ironing so first he rolled over to touch her leg.  This might not sound like much but he had to do about 8 full rotations to get to her.  Then when we put him back on his blanket he rolled over and started flipping the pages on this book.  Tonight was also filled with raspberries, smiles, tickles, laughs, and Greyson standing up on his own (I was holding his hands in front for balance, but all the weight was on his legs).  In addition to that he ate all of his food tonight that Stacy had prepared (which wasn’t a lot, but we are still making progress!).  He also seems on the verge of saying ma.  This is not good as I was hoping his first word would be Haggis.  There is a story behind that you can ask me about if you haven’t heard it.

Well I better go back to monitoring Stacy and Greyson’s sleep.  Only a few more hours till it’s my turn!!

Ahhhh….not my face, my bottom was just in there!

img_0399.JPG

Well we are happy to report that we are getting our son back.  No he didn’t go anywhere, but with the hand, foot, mouth deal he hasn’t been himself in a week.  Thankfully he turned a corner this weekend and while he is still sleeping a bit more than normal, when awake he is back to his playful happy self.

He is doing much better at putting weight on his legs now, and is starting to realize when he is in things like his walker or johnny jump up that he can push himself a bit.  Last night we had him in his Johnny jump up and he would walk himself around in a circle a couple times, then pick his feet up and hold them while he unwound.  You could tell by his smile he was quite tickled with himself.   This picture was taken right after I took him out of the Johnny jump up and I was trying to pull it down and have him grab it.

Stacy stayed home with Greyson all weekend while I spent all weekend at church.  All in all it was a pretty good weekend.  It has been fun playing with Greyson today, although as I said he is still sleeping a lot and has been out for the last couple of hours.
