It’s my birthday!!!

birthday-1.jpgbirthday.jpg

Greyson is getting off to a slow start today as he slept in a bit but is now awake and ready to enjoy his very first birthday.  We will do our best to put up some more pictures throughout the day so everyone can celebrate with us!

The excitment is just to much I’m…zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

img_0331.jpg

Today Stacy and nurse Tina went to go for a walk with Greyson.  As they were standing on the front porch making sure they had everything a blue jay swooped down and threw an acorn at her.  Pretty funny stuff.  Greyson did good with his physical therapy today and was putting about 60 percent of his weight on his arms and legs in the crawling position.  I guess he was looking quite pleased with himself.

Tonight I was rolling him across the bed and he was loving it.  He wouldn’t do it on his own but was helping me a lot so I only had to give him a little push on each roll.  Tonight we took him to church as I was filming a family that is helping me create some material for children’s ministry.  He was so good the whole time.  He really is such a good kid.

Well that’s it for today.  One year ago tonight Stacy was at 23 weeks 5 days into her pregnancy and we were celebrating the fact that she had received her second dose of steroids to help develop Boudreaux’s lungs (that was Greyson’s name until we officially named him on the 26th!).  While we knew he could be born at anytime becuase of all that was happening, we had no idea that it would in fact be the next day.  I wonder what tomorrow holds for us this year?

Mmmm tasty!

It’s funny how Greyson doesn’t like to put food in his mouth, yet he will chomp on anything else that comes within range of his very active hands!  Tonight we got to go watch a volleyball game that one of Greyson’s NICU nurses was coaching (well OK she is the assistant coach but to Greyson it was all on her!)  It was a lot of fun and Greyson was actually watching the game, following the ball back and forth at times.  It was great to get to hang out with Corinne and for Greyson to be able to get his picture taken with her.  Somehow in the hospital (and a few times since) we never managed to get a picture of the two of them together.  Finally we have it!  Greyson got to sit with her for awhile and as you can see from the picture was loving chewing on her sweaters drawstrings.

Today Greyson got his first birthday card in the mail (at least my memory says it was first, sorry if I’m wrong!).  It was from the NICU!  He was so happy that they remembered his birthday and sent a card.  I’m pretty sure he has now completely forgiven all of them for any of the mean things they did to him (which were only for his own good but he struggles to comprehend that sometimes, like when they were putting the cpap mask on him!).

Tonight as I was doing his trach care I learned that he has a mom’s song and a dad’s song.  See when we need him to hold still we sing to him.  During trach care Stacy has a specific song she sings to him.  I don’t do trach care nearly as often as Stacy, and I have a different song that I usually sing to him.  Well tonight he was really squirmy and so I started singing Stacy’s song to him.  He looked at me weird and then started wiggling all over the changing table (not a good move when dad has the medical version of needle nose plyers under your trach tube and against your chubby little neck!).  So I stoppd and got him back where I needed him to be and started singing the song I always sing to him (not for trach care per se, just the song I usually sing to him) and he settled right down and let me finish without any problems.  I wonder if that will work when he’s older?

Don’t forget your coat

img_0329.jpg

Well I know it’s been awhile and my only excuse is I am a creature of habit.  I’m still having computer problems which means I can’t do the updates as I usually do.  Yes I could do them on a different computer (like I am right now) but for some reason it seems more complicated.  It’s funny because it really is the same, but seems harder since it’s not what I’ve become used to.

The weather is starting to turn colder and wetter here, so we are beginning to limit Greyson’s running out and about.  He now only goes to church Sunday nights (far less people sunday nights!) and will probably have to stay home from that soon.  We hate to have to limit his exposure to the world but know that it will be worth it if he stays relatively healthy all winter and gets his trach out come spring (or early summer at the latest!).  He has learned a new game we like to call repeat and is getting pretty good at it.  Basically it consists of me slapping my leg three times while counting out, “one two three” and then looking at him and telling him to do it.  He almost always will but often does either two or four slaps.  Guess we’re still working on the counting.

So not really much else to talk about other than to say he is growing and developing everyday.  He sits (once started) pretty good on his own and is beginning to get the idea that he could push himself up, although he has a lot of work to do before he gets there.  He is starting to push more with his legs so the possibility that he could someday walk is still there (the way he wouldn’t put any weight on his legs after getting out of the hospital made me wonder sometimes!).

Well I know you had to wait for this update and it’s not all that exciting so I’ll just have to say that if you want real fun make sure you’re healthy and come visit us!  This will be more and more important as Greyson gets “grounded” more and more as cold season really gets going.  **Oh Greyson is so excited because he is having visitors on thursday (his first birthday!) then this weekend his Gram and papa are coming to visit, followed the next weekend by his grandma, grandma great, cousins, and aunts, and one of his uncles.  Busy times for the little guy but he can hardly wait!

Live from the command center

picture-001.jpgpicture-002.jpg

Greyson tried out his shopping cart cover yesterday and felt like he was in complete control of the shopping experience.  It was fun to see him sitting up like a big boy in the shopping cart.  The cover is nice since it keeps his little hands from touching anything germy.  He is really getting good at sitting up on his own now and it is fun to sit next to him as he looks around from this “new” vantage point.  He’s starting to push with his legs a bit so we are hoping (and dreading?) that he will soon be able to move himself around more.  His tummy time activity now consists of putting him on his stomach so he can roll onto his back.  He just doesn’t seem interested and now will barely stay on his stomach before rolling over.  Oh well at least he gets the practice of rolling over.

Computer issues again!

Well unfortunately our primary computer is having issues again.  I guess our laptop decided it would be fun to follow suit so I can’t get a picture uploaded tonight.  I’ll work on it tomorrow.  Here is a quick update though:

Greyson now has 5 teeth and is working hard on his sixth.  It should break fully through in the next day or so.  He continues to show his personality and is becoming quite the rough and tough boy.  He plays rough with his toys and parents, and sometimes we have to remind him he has to be gentle when he is playing with us.  More than once he has smacked us in the face way to hard!

**Update-fixed the laptop (one down one to go!) could it have been user error?  Actually Greyson was watching a video of smurfs with his mom and was quite mesmorized by it.  It was funny when I went to take the picture Greyson kept looking at me, yet quickly glancing at the computer.  It was fun to watch him try “get distracted” by the computer……or was it me?  Anyway enjoy the picture.

Good day ol chap

img_0312.jpg

Yesterday we took Greyson to Old Navy and found this cool hat.  We didn’t buy it (probably cause we’re too cheap for that) but did get a couple cool pictures from it.  Today I was gone to a conference all day and was worried Greyson would be asleep when I got home.  He was awake and quite playful which was good.  Tomorrow I’m at the conference again but the good news is it will be done earlier in the afternoon so Greyson and I can play when I get home.  That’s about all I know for today.

I’m keeping my parents VERY busy!

*to play left click video to select, then right click and select play.

I know it’s been awhile (well a couple days, which most bloggers wouldn’t consider awhile but anyway).  Greyson has been doing great.  He is really getting the hang of things and it is so fun to watch him learn and be able to do new things all the time.

Today we bought him his halloween outfit (it’s a secret so I can’t tell you about it).  OK I guess that’s it for now.  Enjoy the video (I had to cut out a lot but I think I included enough for you to get the idea!)
