Well today was another big day for us. Being May 1 it was time to do a trach change. This means we had to pull out the trach in Greyson’s throat and insert a new one. Since Stacy put the new one in last time, it was my turn today. We got all the safety things organized and were getting ready. I was still working on gathering the courage to do it when all of a sudden Stacy started counting and pulled out the old trach. Now I was staring down at his stoma thinking “but I’m not ready!!!”. I slid the new one in and it really wasn’t that big of a deal, it was just the thought of it all that was difficult to get past.
Tonights picture shows how we can transport Greyson from the living room to his room. I finally figured out how to arrange everything so that I could move him to a different room by myself. Of course it takes at least two other trips to move all the power cords and the suction machine, but at least he can be moved by just one person!
This is a picture from just a few minutes ago. He was pretty tired and fell right to sleep after we put him in his crib. We are working hard to get his bath, trach care, and clothing change done earlier so we can get him in bed around 9. After a VERY long time we are trying to establish a bit of a routine for him. It was nice because today he took an afternoon nap but didn’t sleep too long. This made it possible for me to play with him when I got home from work.
Stacy showed her excellent Doctoring tonight by realizing that we could put a little more water in his cuff (the balloon in his trach) in order to help him take deeper breaths and make the vent stop alarming. Way to go Stacy! She really is amazing and the Westfall boys are sure lucky to have her around!
These are very cool pictures! I love the first one because it gives us and idea of all that you have to do in order to move Greyson around. I was thrilled to hear that Greyson was awake for play time with Dad yesterday. After talking to you on the phone yesterday I was hoping he would not be sleepy. Stacy it sounds like you are rivaling Dr. Bob for adjustments and settings for Greyson! It is so awesome to hear that you are right on top of things and know what to do to make Greyson more comfortable as your answer sounded more professional than the guess of Dr Bob! Greyson is so cute in his bed asleep. How are you able to get anything done…..other than just watching him? It is certainly great to see and hear that you are all getting used to being home and getting settled in. You are fantastic parents!
Love,
Aunt Tam
Every entery you have made on the blog has been so very special and we are all so thankful for them but the one from day before yesterday that was specifially from Greyson takes top honor…….WOW..
I agree with you Bob about Stacy being amazing….We’ve known that for years so I’m glad you are finally getting up to speed on that discovery..(Ha) I’m just messing with you. I know you know that. You are all three amazing and we just continually thank God for you all…Love you much, Aunt Sue
I can sympathize with you Bob on not wanting to change the trach but I am so glad Stacy made you do it. Now you know you can and you will be ready the next time. Greyson looks so healthy and comfy. He has certainly settled right in and you and Stacy have done an exceptionally good job with him. How proud you can be because being a parent is challenging all by itself but with the added things you have with Greyson you are always right on top of it. Way to go! Keep telling Greyson how much his grandma loves him and give him kisses for me. Grandma Great says do the same for her also.
We finally are almost settled in South Carolina, so we decided to check in on you guys. Hooray for coming home!!! Aside from all his “accessories” Greyson looks like a happy healthy little boy. He is so big, nearly able to push around all his equipment himself!
Happy homecoming! Judy and Daisy (and the rest of the Gorsky Clan preoccupied with cleaning, painting, and un packing)
I love the picture of Greyson & his equipment. You guys are doing such a wonderful job caring for him. I think God knew just the right parents for that precious little boy. What a joy – and a strength you are for him.
Bob, Stacy and Greyson,
It is so wonderful to see pics of you all at home! It must feel so good to be there together as a family and know that you are settling right in. You are awesome parents! We continue to pray for you all as Greyson grows and changes each day. We’ll be welcoming number 4 in just four weeks so Greyson will have another cousin to root him on!
We love you all very much and think of you often, even though we don’t get a chance to see you! (The pictures are a great way to feel like we get to see you though!)
God Bless and give that big boy a love for us.
